How to Create Copywriting Portfolio (Without Actual Paying Clients)
This tip can help you build any portfolio (not just copywriting) to start your writing journey
Hey Aspiring Copywriters/Writers/Bloggers,
As a freelancer, I know the struggle of the initial days to get clients.
Client needs a portfolio of your work (experience) and to create a portfolio you need a client.
This is the same situation as who came first, a chicken or an egg.
In July 2023, I started learning copywriting.
For learning, you can get so many free resources and many good paid resources too. I learned from both.
Now the biggest question that arises is how to get a client that pays you for your copywriting skills?
Even if you find the client, they will ask for a portfolio of your work. And as a beginner, you will not have one.
I faced the same problem. But luckily, I found a solution to it.
I helped one of my writer friends with creating ad copy for his writing course for FREE.
When he sent me his initial copy (that he wrote) as an advertisement to promote his course, I saw room for a lot of improvement in his written advertisement copy.
I immediately reached out to him and told him about my new skill that I learned. And how can that skill be helpful to him?
He agreed and provided me with course details so that I could write ad copy for it.
I wrote 2 copies for him, which he liked very much and was about to use for his course ad.
This helped him get better ad copy that attracted more students to his course and I got to practice my craft.
It was a win-win for both of us.
Later, I used both ad copies to create a copywriting portfolio that I could show to a client who wants to see my work.
